The Greatest Commandments
- First is to love God — with all your heart, mind and soul.
- The second-greatest Commandment is “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
The very mission of Habitat for Humanity is to respond to Christ’s “challenge” to love our neighbors by helping the less fortunate become homeowners of decent, affordable housing. It is logical, then, that Itasca County Habitat for Humanity should reach out to its local church communities in order to build community partnerships to provide affordable housing throughout Itasca County.
Churches can help ICHFH with donations of volunteer time, professional services and financial contributions — ICHFH gives churches an opportunity to answer God’s call by providing opportunities for Christians to put their faith into action.
Partner Churches will support ICHFH with:
- Prayer – ICHFH cannot do the work God has called us to do without your prayers
- Volunteers – Serve on a committee, help on the construction site, volunteer to help out with special events – etc. There are numerous ways to volunteer with ICHFH
- Finances – Habitat homes cost about $95,000 to build and all of our funding comes from Foundations, Businesses, Churches, Civic Organizations and Individuals making contributions.
Entering into a church partnership with ICHFH is easy. Here are a few tips to get started:
- Contact the ICHFH office; stating you want to build a partnership.
- Identify a liaison between the church and ICHFH.
- Request a speaker from ICHFH to address your congregation at large and small fellowship groups.
- Keep your church body informed of volunteer needs and opportunities.
- To request a speaker, contact Shannon Benolken

If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has not pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love, in word or speech, but in truth and action.
John 3:16-18
