Building a Brighter Future for their Family

Itasca County Habitat for Humanity is proud to welcome our newest partner family, Desirae and Taryn, who are engaged and have been together for five years. They are the loving parents of Lyla, their daughter who is almost two years old.

For the past year, the family has been living in Desirae’s brother’s basement after their previous rental apartment proved drafty, inefficient, and increasingly unaffordable. Despite these challenges, Desirae and Taryn remain focused on building a brighter future for Lyla.

Their dream is simple yet powerful: to create a warm, safe home where Lyla can grow up surrounded by love and stability. They imagine decorating their home and tree during the holidays, just as they experienced in their own childhoods, and giving Lyla the same cherished memories.
They look forward to having a yard where she can play and explore, and a kitchen where they can prepare meals together as a family.

By partnering with Habitat for Humanity, Desirae and Taryn are taking a meaningful step toward achieving these goals. Their journey reflects the mission of Habitat: helping families build strength, stability, and self-reliance through affordable homeownership.
