Anna and Sophie are two friends who wanted to give back to the community by volunteering, but they needed some guidance on how to get started. Anna saw an advertisement for a Volunteer Appreciation event at the Itasca County Habitat for Humanity ReStore in June and invited Sophie along. That started off their journey to volunteering for Itasca Habitat.
At the event, they signed up to volunteer at the ReStore and on Habitat building projects. They recently took part in their first home project, doing some final clean-up to get a home ready for dedication to the Allen family. Recently retired, Anna was looking for ways to stay involved and help those around her. “It’s a pleasure to get out into the community,” she said. In addition to working at the build site, she has also volunteered in the Itasca ReStore. “Volunteering is fun,” Sophie said. “You just have to take that step and make the commitment to doing something. You get more out of it than you put in.” We have volunteer opportunities for all skill levels, from building homes and working at the ReStore, to providing meals or becoming a faith ambassador.
