Our Net Zero Energy Efficient Home

7/31/2025

In May we broke ground on our 51st home, a significant milestone in our mission to provide affordable housing solutions for families in need. Misty, Rhys, and the girls will soon have a place to call their own, thanks to the collective efforts of our dedicated volunteers, generous donors, and supportive community partners.

This home is also significant because it is ICHFH’s first net-zero passive home, featuring advanced energy-efficient technologies like triple-pane windows, LED lighting, R45 insulated walls and R70 roof, and extra slab insulation. These features will dramatically reduce energy consumption and environmental impact.

“Beyond providing shelter, this home will be more cost-effective for the family.” said Jamie Mjolsness, Executive Director of Itasca County Habitat for Humanity. “By constructing this energy-efficient home, we are not just building houses; we are building a more sustainable and equitable future for Itasca County. This 51st home is not just a house; it’s a symbol of hope, resilience, and the power of community. It stands as a testament to what we can achieve when we come together to support our neighbors.”
