What is Home Preservation?Home Preservation is a program that aids low-income homeowners who struggle to maintain their homes due to age, disability, and/or family circumstances. Work done by our Home Preservation program might include painting, landscaping, or making changes to accommodate an aging homeowner. Recently we've been focusing on an age in place mentality by making minor changes to help homeowners whose accessibility needs are changing with age. Habitat for Humanity coordinates volunteers and sweat equity hours contributed by the owner to make improvements. We work with families to come up with affordable financing plans and provide 0-interest loans to ensure that homeowners are not cost-burdened by completing these necessary improvements to their homes. The Home Preservation program allows Habitat for Humanity to extend its reach and help more families take care of and stay in their homes.
